PocketMadeira is a complete, honest guide to Madeira. Every levada and trail, viewpoint, beach and natural pool, village, historic site, museum and nature spot in the archipelago, each with its own page, its exact location and the practical details that matter. On top of that data comes the layer no database can provide: local notes on whether a place is actually worth your time, written by someone from here.
What makes it different
Most travel content about Madeira is written by people who spent four days here, optimized the title for search engines, and moved on to the next island. This site is built the opposite way: the complete factual map first, improved every week, with the local knowledge of someone born on the island. When a page says "Verified", a real person checked it, and the date is shown.
We also promise honesty over inventory: if a famous stop is a tourist trap, we say so and point you somewhere better. There are no paid placements in our recommendations.
Where the data comes from
Place data begins with OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database License. Live weather, sea temperatures and UV come from Open-Meteo and refresh every few hours. Historical context and some photography come from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons under the CC BY-SA license; each enriched page links to its source article, where full author and image credits are available.
How we earn
PocketMadeira shows no display advertising. When you book accommodation or activities through clearly marked links on the site, we may receive a commission from the booking platform at no extra cost to you. That is the entire business model, and it never influences what we recommend: the links appear on every place page equally.
Who is behind it
PocketMadeira is built and operated by IPNOVA SYSTEMS LTD, a software company registered in Cyprus, and founded by a Madeiran. The person behind this site was born and raised on the island; this is home, not a content assignment. PocketMadeira is the sister site of PocketCyprus, built on the same principle: one island, done properly.
